There are no Irish events definitively planned yet. In the meantime Irish boats will participate in racing in Portsmouth Yardstick fleets, showing off the boats and having fun.
For 2012 we’ll try to get a few OK Dinghies together in one place and have informal racing, and a couple of people hope to participate in some international and British regattas. The 2012 Worlds are – for instance – an open event in celebration of the 50th Worlds, and it’s really tempting.
Also, we’re having discussions to see if it would be possible to organize OK Dinghy participation in the 2013 Dun Laoghaire Regatta. The DLR is possibly the biggest and best regatta on the Irish Sea, with a diverse range of boats from Class 0 IRC boats to high performance dinghies.

The dates for the DLR line up very nicely with the French and European OK Dinghy Championships in 2013 as well
So, it’d actually be practical to do the DLR and then any of the subsequent major regattas. Depending on preference British or continental boats could probably even take the ferry from the South East of Ireland direct to Roscoff or Cherbourg rather than returning to England and going via Portsmouth.
The DLR could be part of the warm up to Carnac, with or without the French Nationals. An event in Ireland won’t conflict with the French Nationals in any way, so there shouldn’t be a problem trying to organise something on those dates.
A promotional video for the DLR event in 2013 just went up on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/DLRegatta#p/u/6/CDPhPRz9M_s
The 2011 Promo video is perhaps a better illustration of the event..that’s here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng1OotifXzA
Also, for those of you that haven’t been there before, here’s a Google Street View of the Royal George – one of the hosting clubs. You can see the sails out the back. Also, if you pan left, you’ll see the ferry terminal… http://g.co/maps/u4uvq where ferries from the UK arrive in the summer.
As we have news, we’ll update this to keep you informed.
Have a look at the British and international events to see the breadth of the available competitions.
