Two races on an unexpectedly quiet and gray day found “Beastie” again 2 minutes off the pace, but that’s the very short version.
Race 1 saw the sole OK Dinghy getting a wonderfully clean pin end flyer. The gun went, Beastie tacked and crossed the fleet. Very nice. Half way up the beat an IDRA14 coming over with a shift from the left had caught back up, but capsized after a slam tack on Beastie’s lee bow. For the rest of the race that same old speed gap told, and the OK Dinghy finished 4th. But looking good.
The plan for the start of race 2 was the same… hold up the fleet then aim for the pin end. But one of the IDRAs wasn’t having any of it and decided that windward leeward is an entirely optional rule. You know about it when you’ve been fouled by an IDRA, so it wasn’t a great start. The protest is pending
Meantime, with McCarthy’s Solo and Fortune’s Finn both sailing well off into the distance the OK Dinghy found itself 2 minutes of the pace again. With Hamilton’s IDRA sailing well and the Finn again week sailed, there’s a two way tie at the top with Beastie now in 3rd.
But a good day’s racing nonetheless.
